Riga is the capital of Latvia and also the largest city in the Baltic States.
Since Riga regained its independence in 1991, the population has increased
sharply declined. This is due to the exodus of previously numerous
represented Russians, but also to a strong birth deficit.
The old Hanseatic city of Riga is located on the Baltic Sea and at the same time that
political, economic, industrial and cultural center of Latvia.
More than half of Latvian companies and employees are here
resident. Both the food industry and the wood and textile industry
and pharmacy are the most important branches of industry. Besides, Riga is now
attractive to foreign investors. The city is also famous for
its numerous impressive Art Nouveau buildings, its extensive grounds
and the particularly well-preserved inner city. The Old Town of Riga was opened in 1997
included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Culturally Riga can be in
