When you stroll along the beach promenade in Binz on the island of Rügen and pass the spa, you feel as if you have been transported back in time to when the Grand Hotel was still "Klünders Strandhotel" and bathing culture was still in its infancy. You would almost think that the only thing missing were the elegant ladies in their long dresses and with open parasols made of delicate lace, accompanied by their equally elegant husbands in frock coats, who raise their hats in greeting as the schoolmaster passes by with his wife and charming daughters. You can hardly get enough of the timeless elegance and beauty of the often multi-storey buildings, which were mainly built in the Wilhelminian period. The spa architecture does not correspond to any one style. Rather, different building features were put together, resulting in a new and distinctive building form. Classical style elements such as pilasters and half columns are represented, as are Art Nouveau ornaments. Some buildings even have baroque decorations.
