On February 27, 1681, the commander of the city of Düren and bailiff of Aldenhoven, the Palatinate-Neuburg warlord and treasurer, colonel and commander over a regiment on foot, Johann Dietrich baron von Nulandt drowned in the Rur not far from the Kellenberg castle by turning over his carriage . In memory of him, his family had a mighty and artfully designed cross made of Belgian granite, which was badly destroyed by vandalism in the early 1970s. On September 3, 2016, the destroyed Nulandt Cross was made available to the public again as a replica in the Kellenberger Forest near the original location.
