Cattle trough at the "Rupprasen"
Here you can see a testimony of
traditional pastoralism and a
necessary facility for watering the cattle on their grazing in the
summer months. 1828 occurs
Kurhessian herding regulations come into force and regulate rights and duties in the pastoral system in the former Hess. Lordship Schmalkalden and the
later Prussia. Province of Hesse-Nassau. Since ancient times there has been
commissioned shepherds in the city.
Around 1900 a herdsmen's association was founded for the upper and lower town.
Grazing rights existed in the
State forests after consultation with the
District foresters and through the corridor
fixed grazing routes.
The insufficient roughage for the cattle made the forest pasture for them
small farmers required. The mountain meadows in the corridor were after
single-track mowing in late summer
guarded again. 1959 ended the private grazing in the
