'Seven Pillars of Wisdom' is the autobiographical account of the experiences of British Army Colonel T. E. Lawrence ('Lawrence of Arabia') as a military advisor to the Bedouins during the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire from 1916 to 1918.
Many places in the Wadi Rum area were named after 'Lawrence of Arabia', including the rock formation near the entrance to the park, now also known as the 'Seven Pillars of Wisdom'.
