The “Elbe Sandstone Mountains” right behind Hameln. Great hiking area from Coppenbrügge into the mountains. Nice views and a lot of rugged rock. After reaching the ridge path it continues without great differences in height. On the way beautiful views of the valley.

With the massif of the flagstone, the Ith jumps powerfully and ruggedly into the plain between Hameln and Coppenbrügge. This steep drop has given the Fahnenstein an extremely distinctive character and defines the landscape down to the Weser. This character, dominating the landscape, has probably caused, as far as the reports go, the Easter and solstice fires to be lit on the Fahnenstein. The custom of burning Easter bonfires or solstice bonfires has persisted to the present day; only since the beginning of the 20th century, for example, the fires have no longer been lit on the flagstone, but on an unwooded hill in front of it, so that forest fires can be prevented. The custom of flagging the rock gave the flagstone its name. Nothing is known about his previous name.
