It wasn't until its new construction under master builder Georg Daniel between 1870 and 1873 that the Malchow town church reached its current location. Unstable soil conditions and the frequent destruction of its predecessors by town fires (a major fire on the island in 1697) necessitated its relocation from the island, near today's town hall.

The rectory is still located there.
The new building was largely financed through donations. Pastor Ferdinand Stolzenburg (1840-1886) played a particularly important role in this effort, even gaining the support of Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II, whose portrait is commemorated inside the church.
Today, in addition to the services of the Protestant congregation, the town church also hosts a variety of exhibitions and concerts.

The town church Sankt Johannis Malchow in Malchow, Kirchenstraße, in the south of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was built from 1870 to 1873 in the form of a cruciform church. The building is a historical monument.
