With its houses made of roughly hewn slate, typical of the Ardennes, and its old tobacco granaries, Laforêt is one of the prettiest towns in Wallonia. In the past, tobacco was grown here on a large scale, which was then dried and processed in the wooden granaries.

Located on the left bank of the Semois, not far from the municipality of Vresse, this village is part of the association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Wallonia. It consists of a good hundred inhabitants whose demonym is "the Forigeots".
