This sound mirror on Abbot's Cliff was built in 1928 to provide early warning of enemy planes approaching Britain. The mirrors were surprisingly effective and a number were built along this stretch of coastline. However, the system was abandoned in 1938 in favour of RADAR. From this spot, you get a great sense of your surroundings, both aurally and visually.
