The impressive Gothic castle church dominates the medieval castle courtyard. The church was built by the Franciscans in the 14th century and consecrated in the autumn of 1400. However, the entire church was not completed until 1490. In the 16th century, Târgu Mureș embraced the Reformation, and the church came into the possession of the Reformed Church in 1557 or 1559. In 1602 and 1658, the church was severely damaged during attacks on the castle.
