To honor the Latin origins of the Romanian people, the Italian state donated four copies of the famous Capitoline Wolf from Rome to Romania between 1906 and 1926 (Bucharest 1906, Cluj 1921, Chișinău 1921, and Timișoara 1926). The statue in Târgu Mureș is a copy of the Bucharest statue. The copy was created by the sculptor Ion Schmidt-Faur and unveiled on May 23, 1924.
