The aqueduct Águila (translated as the eagle) in Nerja is a very large aqueduct and immediately catches the eye. 37 arches made of brick span four floors. In total, the aqueduct is around forty meters high. The water supply comes from an open canal on the top floor.
The entire building is reminiscent of the Mudejar style typical of Andalusia, especially on its northern side. The Mudéjares were assimilated Muslims who were allowed to remain in Spain after Arab rule was pushed back from the 11th to 15th centuries.

The Aqueduct del Águila is a truly impressive structure. It was built in the 19th century (1879-1880) to transport water from the Barranco de Coladilla river to a sugar cane factory in the area. The structure features four-storey arches in a neo-Moorish style reminiscent of Andalusian architecture.
It remains a local landmark today and a popular destination for visitors who come to enjoy both the architecture and the views. Although the aqueduct is no longer used in its original function, it is a significant example of the engineering of its time.

An aqueduct from the 19th century. that still manages water for agriculture over the deep ravine between Maro and Nerja. It is easily reached on foot via a dirt road.
The sugar cane sugar factory that used to be supplied with this water is now a ruin.
However, the best view of this is from the N-340a.
