Idyllically located, with an area of 3.75 hectares, is the Horstsee on the way from the Stade train station to the Schwingetal. The lake, which the inhabitants also simply call the Lehmkuhle, was created by the mining of red clay by the brickworks located there at the time. In 1921 a water vein was accidentally opened during clay piercing, which resulted in the hollow being filled with water within one night.
Today the lake is a paradise for anglers. After perch in particular initially multiplied there, the lake is now also home to carp, tench, roach, bream, aland, eel, pikeperch and pike.
Cattails, iris, calamus and other plants were planted on the banks and meanwhile ensure that the former loam has become a rich biotope.
A hiking trail leads completely around the lake.
