First you walk along a wide birch alley. Then through two massive stone flags, before which kneel over-sized soldiers of the Red Army. And then the wide field of the memorial spreads before you. Towering above everything is "The Liberator" - a monumental bronze statue. A young red-armist, a huge broadsword in one hand, a child seeking help on the other, and a crushed swastika at his feet.

No question, this place is awe-inspiring. If you then find out that more than 7,000 Russian soldiers have been buried here at the Battle of Berlin, you will become very calm and devout. And silently you thank these men for giving their lives to liberate Europe from Hitler Germany.
