Renswoude Castle is a very romantic castle and in the beautiful castle gardens you have fantastic views of the fairytale decor in various places. Renswoude Castle was built in 1654. Today, for obvious reasons, it is a popular wedding venue. Enjoy the grandeur of the castle, but also certainly the national monuments that you encounter around the building, such as the pigeon tower and the tea house.

As early as 855, Renswoude was mentioned as silva Hrenhem (the Rhenese forest) in a charter. The settlement of Renswoude only really came into existence around 1400. Renswoude then consisted of a provided house called the Borchwal and a number of scattered farms (which still exist to a large extent in terms of naming but in other forms).

In the mid-17th century, Renswoude became a so-called “Hooge and free glory of Renswoude and Emminkhuizen”. An area with its own independent jurisdiction and the like.

Castle
In 1654 the fortified house, commissioned by Johan van Reede, was demolished and replaced by the country house, probably designed by Ghijsbert Theunisz. van Vianen and Peter Jansz. van Cooten. The current house in Dutch Classicist style was probably built on the medieval foundations.

In the years 1965 to 1976, the castle that suffered a lot in World War II was thoroughly renovated. A blazing fire in 1985 destroyed part of the castle. The recovery took place a few years later.

A number of apartments have been realized in the castle and the two outbuildings.
