The high cowslip, however, smells less strong and the throat of their flowers is golden yellow. The calyx is in the true cowslip pale green, bulbous and bell-shaped, while he rests close to the flower crown leaves in the high cowslip.

The cowslip is under protection.

Both the so-called Forest Cowslip or High Cowslip (Primula elatior) and the True Cowslip (Primula veris) are under special protection in Germany and many other countries.
