In joy that Wenigentaft had survived World War II almost unscathed, people wanted to thank the Blessed Mother for the protection she had granted. The main initiators of the construction of a new Marian Grotto were Albert Schabel and his sister Maria Schel.

The Marian Grotto is an important place for the people of Wenigentaft. Marian devotions in honor of the Blessed Mother are held here every year in May, and certainly not a day goes by without a visit to the Blessed Mother. Candles still burn daily at our Blessed Mother's house here on Buchenberg. (...from information board)
