The Eldborg is a beautiful explosion crater in the Eldborg Arhraun. The crater rises 100m above sea level, has a beautiful oval shape with a length of 200 meters and a depth of 50 meters. The crater is said to have spewed lava twice, but then 5000 to 8000 years ago.

A small path over steps leads up to the crater rim. A visit to the frozen crater is recommended. The hike starts at Snorrastaðir Farm, with a campsite.

The Eldberg is considered a particularly beautiful volcanic crater, which has formed in a circular eruption with low viscosity lava. Thin layers of lava formed the narrow ridge around the crater. Typical for slag craters. The Eldberg has broken out twice.
