The Roman Catholic Trinity Chapel is a listed[1] church building in the Rödermärker district of Messenhausen in southern Hesse. It belongs to the parish of St. Nazarius in Ober-Roden, which in turn belongs to the Rodgau-Rödermark pastoral area of the Mainlinie region in the diocese of Mainz. The chapel, built around 1820, is the oldest surviving church in Rödermark.
Before today's Trinity Chapel was built at the entrance to Messenhausen, there was a saint's house that was used as a place of worship.
Today's chapel was finally built around 1820 by Franz, Georg and Erwein Malsi. In the beginning, it was mainly used for the Sunday gatherings of believers in Messenhausen. Since 1857, processions of the Catholic parishes of St. Nazarius from Ober-Roden and St. Gallus from Urberach to the Trinity Chapel in Messenhausen have also taken place every year on Trinity Sunday. There, on the square in front of the chapel, under the lime trees, the pilgrims of both parishes celebrate the service together. Since the congregation that arrived later had to make do with the poorer seats during the fair, a real race developed between the two congregations over time. This tradition, which continues to this day, was founded by Pastor Valentin Koepp, who was pastor in Ober-Roden from 1856 to 1887.
In 1937 the chapel was expanded and received a bell tower. A fundamental redesign of the chapel interior took place from 2004 to 2005 under Pastor Elmar Jung.
