Untermerzbach Castle, built in 1534 by the Rotenhan noble family, stands on a hill above the old village center of the village of the same name and is surrounded by the castle park. In the second half of the 18th century, the old castle was converted into a representative early classical country residence. The Pallottine Apostolic Society acquired the property in 1922 and maintained a novitiate and a university of philosophy there until 2009. Some extensions and outbuildings have been added. In 2010, construction work began on the use of the area as a seminar center for the administrative professional association.

Untermerzbach Castle stands on a hill above the old village center of the village of the same name.
The castle was built by the Rotenhan family in 1534, as evidenced by the coat of arms of the noble family in one of the two towers.

Under Karl Alexander, the Merzbach line was elevated to the rank of count. In order to distance themselves from the "only baronial" kinship, the counts added a second "t" to their name and henceforth called themselves Counts of Rottenhan. In the second half of the 18th century, the old castle was converted into a representative early classical country seat.

In 1922 the Pallottine Apostolic Society acquired the property and maintained a novitiate and a philosophical college there until 2009. A few extensions and outbuildings were added to the existing building. In 2010, construction work began for the future use of the area as a seminar center for the administrative trade association.

The VBG Academy has been in operation since 2011 and the park, the buildings and the hotel area are not open to the public. The repair work on the terrace and the parapet with the beautiful outside staircase has unfortunately been going on for years.
