The Püttchen was then an enclosed spring and cattle trough. Every day the forest farmers in the area drove their pigs, cattle and horses into the forest, where they fed on acorns, beechnuts, wild herbs and tree shoots. The use had consequences: because the cattle ate the new shoots, the forest lacked new blood and became thinner and thinner.

The putty knows history. After all, the small fountain (= Low German "Pütt-Püttchen") that we see here has been around much longer than all the trees around it. In the Middle Ages there was a large deciduous forest here, in which there was probably a small settlement.
