Almost every city has its own parade street. In Graz, this is Herrengasse, which impresses with decorative baroque facades, magnificent late Renaissance buildings and buildings from the Wilhelminian period. The main shopping street in the old town stretches from the main square to the square Am Eisernen Tor. Here, the fountain is a popular destination.

Herrengasse, in the Middle Ages Bürgerstraße, also Bürgergasse, is the name of a baroque boulevard in the center of Graz and a focal point of public life in the Styrian capital. It connects the main square with the square Am Eisernen Tor, near Jakominiplatz, the center of public transport in Graz. It runs approximately north-south parallel to the Mur on the left bank of the Mur. All Graz tram lines run through Herrengasse, which has been largely a pedestrian zone since November 1972 and is therefore closed to private traffic.
