In May, the irises begin to bloom in the Eriskircher Ried. Innumerable Siberian irises, as the iris is actually called, open their blue flowers on the damp meadows. Yellow water irises shine in between. The wide reed belts offer protected breeding grounds for water birds, and woodpeckers and rare songbirds can be heard in the floodplain forests. Still waters and backwaters are home to frogs and dragonflies. If you walk carefully through the area, you can discover the great diversity of species.

Here is the old Eriskirch lido with a jetty to observe the bird life in the reed bed. Currently (Nov. 2019) there are thousands of mallards, among others, in the bay. Here is the report on SWR television:
