The house at Schweinsbrücke 6-8, built by Heinz Schabbell until 1571, used to serve as a brewery and now houses Wismar's city history museum. More information about the museum can be found here:

The brewer, councilor and later mayor Heinrich Schabbell had his new brewery built on the Frischen Grube from 1569 to 1571 according to plans by the Utrecht builder Philipp Brandin.

The Schabbellhaus, which bears his name today, is one of the earliest Renaissance buildings in the Baltic Sea region, showing the material combination of brick with decorative sandstone elements, which is common in the Netherlands.

The Schabbelhaus invites you on an interesting excursion through Wismar's eventful past: The Hanseatic League, the Swedish rule, Wismar as an industrial city and during the GDR era are just some of the focal points that are taken into account in the exhibition. Listening stations and various hands-on activities present Wismar's history in a particularly exciting way for young and old.
