The legend of the sleeping giant from Lemberg

It came at a time when miners were mining ore in the Schmittenstollen in order to get a fair wage. To do the same, a young man from the vicinity of Lemberg once went into the depths of the narrow mine tunnels. It so happened that the young man became more mature, stronger, and as he grew, also taller. Not least because of the bearable wages, which were more than several times that of a day laborer, he was able to allow himself lavish meals. He did this extensively so that he kept growing and growing, which meant that he could no longer squeeze his way through the narrow corridors of the Schmittenstollen. It did not help complaining and fasting, a new job had to be found. In the form of a giant he had no other job than to work as a stone crusher in the nearby quarry for a meager wage from sunrise to sunset. So it happened that his tormented body demanded rest and rest after the work was done, whereupon he lay down at this point. It was not uncommon for a tawny owl to join him while the sleeping giant dreamed of a fine glass of Nahe wine that he could hardly indulge in any more.
