Since 1996 the Gut Herbigshagen of the Sielmann Foundation has been a much-visited center in southern Lower Saxony. The nature experience center links the foundation's core themes with historical and ecological regional conditions.

The grounds are beautifully spacious; when we arrived, the pigs were being watered and were wallowing happily in the mud. Many other animals can be encountered while wandering around the grounds: colorful peacocks, geese, ducks, chickens, roosters, fallow deer, donkeys, rabbits, goats, and the Harz Red Mountain Cattle. There is a display stable, but it was mostly empty, as the cows were in the paddock.

From the show stable with the rare domestic and farm animal breeds to the interactive exhibitions and imaginative climbing paths to the fallow deer enclosure and the orchards, everything revolves around the concerns of the Heinz Sielmann Foundation.
