This gateway overlooking the Tronto is one of the symbols of the city. Built between 1552 and 1555, by order of Pope Paul III, it defended the northern entrance to the city. Historical sources show that the original gate was damaged in 1491 during the wars between the Guelphs and the Ghibellines. It was restored in 1551. The building has the appearance of a slender tower with a loggia in the upper part and a fresco above the entrance arch. On the street side, a small door gives access to the interior spaces and the upper loggia.
