"... This lake landscape was declared a nature reserve as early as 1938. This was mainly due to the fact that the waters were very rich in nutrients and thus attracted numerous birds. The four Krickenberg lakes did not even come into being naturally A low moorland area was excavated and today they lie like a cloverleaf around Krickenbeck Castle.They are called Glabbacher Bruch, Hinsbecker Bruch, Schrolik (see) and Poelvennsee.
There are various color-coded hiking trails around the Krickenberger Lakes that you can discover on foot or by bike. You will always notice teal, table, gadfly, tufted and shovel ducks. Common guests are also great crested grebes as well as coots and pond chickens.
Not only birds feel at home here, but also a multitude of rare animal and plant species.
The most important bird species in the area include honey buzzard, black woodpecker, nightingale, bluethroat, dwarf and goosander, spotted moorhen, greenshank, reed warbler, kingfisher, tree falcon and a few more ... "
