Lime-grass turf, also known as dry limestone turf, is extensively used, species-rich and flower-rich grassland or grassland biotopes on base-rich soils. In terms of their species composition, they are related to the steppes of Eastern Europe and Asia (the Eurasian steppe), but originated in Central Europe with the support of humans at locations that previously carried forest (so-called semi-cultural formation). Because of their particular biodiversity and their threat from more intensive forms of use, limestone grasslands are a protected object of nature conservation. Bushy limestone grasslands are also called juniper heath.
