Rousseau Islands are small, mostly artificial islands in lakes that are modeled on the former grave of Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778) on the Île des peupliers (Poplar Island) in the park of Ermenonville near Paris.

A circle of poplars or alders was planted on the round islands, surrounding a cenotaph or decorative urn. These mock cemeteries of the Romantic era express the park owners' sympathy with Rousseau's nature-loving and social reform ideas. They were used as a design element primarily in the creation of English landscape gardens.
