I'd cycled past this mill dozens of times, but I'd never walked here. It's a beautiful mill, but the outbuilding could use some renovation.

The Geremolen is located on the Oostvaart, approximately 1 km northeast of the village. The mill drained the Oost- and Westgeer polder (270 ha.; lifting height 1.80 m.). Since 27 January 1966, after an administrative merger, it has been called the Geer- and Buurtpolder.
Until 1 January 1958, the polder was drained by wind power. After it was decommissioned, the state of maintenance deteriorated rapidly. In 1967, a demolition permit was requested, but it was not granted.
On 12 April 1969, according to some Leiden newspapers, the mill went berserk during a storm, but the fire brigade was able to prevent worse by turning the mill out of the wind (it must have been a stroke of luck that the mill could still be turned).
In 1969, the province of South Holland became the owner; in 1974 he sold the mill to the Rijnlandse Molenstichting.

In a way, that dilapidated barn next to it is even more intriguing. The mill is in top condition but the barn next to it is about to collapse: curious.
