The lake's owner has severely restricted the use of water sports. Surfing and canoeing are strictly prohibited. Sailing is permitted only by residents with written permission and for a fee, which no one is currently taking advantage of. Otherwise, the lake may only be used for fishing with rowing boats licensed by the State Fishing Association.

The lake is leased to the Schleswig-Holstein State Sports Fishing Association. Except for two small shore fishing spots in Tökendorf, fishing is permitted exclusively from rowing boats.
