Although the Ruhr flows right through Mülheim, you can easily forget being in the city on a hike. The renatured Ruhrauen are an important place of life for fish, birds and also for small mammals such as shrew, muskrat and otter. If you are particularly attentive, you may even recognize kingfishers. The glittering, rare bird is the clear proof of the good water quality of the Ruhr.

ハイキング
The former Kahlenberg youth hostel is idyllically situated above the banks of the Ruhr in Mülheim. The over 125-year-old building is a listed building and was restored in a complex process and converted into condominiums. The youth hostel operation was discontinued in 2010 after 58 years, but the postcard motif of the Kahlenberg with dense forest cover and architectural monument should be retained.
