Untere Bachgasse runs parallel to Wahlenstraße and flows into the medieval Gesandtenstraße. The name "Untere Bachgasse" is derived from the Vitusbach, which in the Middle Ages ran through the "Obere and Untere Bachgasse" and through the city moat and was important for the water supply of the old town. Today the stream runs underground. The Vitusbach not only influenced the spatial structure of the old town and the course of streets, but was also important for the easy cleaning of the streets and for city hygiene. In the Middle Ages, people threw garbage into the stream. Street ponds were created, which served as watering holes for livestock, cattle washes and to supply home gardens. The city farmers who grew vegetables in the east of the old town were also able to be supplied with water after the city moat was built.
