The founding of Lyubets is attributed by the legend that has come down to us to the Grand Duke Andrei Yuryevich Bogolyubsky. Sailing on boats with his retinue, Bogolyubsky moored for a rest on the high bank of the Klyazma. Bogolyubsky liked this place ("it's nice here") and he ordered the construction of a temple in the name of the Dormition of the Mother of God.
