Bisperode Castle first appears in the sources in 1491, when Otto von Werder was enfeoffed with the property that existed there at the time. During the Thirty Years' War the complex was burned down in 1625 and 1638. From 1662 there were two knights' residences as a result of a division, with the one on the site of today's castle being called "Altenburgk". The "New House" was west of the road to Harderode. However, an "old castle" was already mentioned in Bisperode in 1593. In 1665 the Lords of Werder died out. After lengthy legal disputes, Bisperode was assigned to the Wolff-Metternich family.

The Paderborn Prince-Bishop Hermann Werner von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht had today's palace built between 1694 and 1700 on his family's fiefdom. The previous castle may have stood directly to the east of today's castle, since part of the farmyard extends to here and a ditch could be seen there until the 20th century.

The three-winged building with an almost square courtyard is bordered by a walled moat. The yard opens to the south, a stone bridge leads over the ditch. The two-storey wings have a stone base. The corps de logis is emphasized like a risalit. To the south, square pavilions with curved pyramid roofs are in front of the two wings. The main portal is bordered by columns. The coat of arms of the builder is located in the segmented gable. However, the two-story central wing remained unfinished on the inside and was only expanded after 1900.

The farm buildings are opposite. The lateral access gates from 1694 form an architectural connection with a smooth cuboid structure. The rear park has old trees.

In 1875, the castle and estate passed into civic ownership. After a few changes, the farmer August Voß became the owner in 1901, whose descendants still manage the estate today and renovated the castle between 1979 and 1984.
