The main shopping street in the center of Bergedorf is the Sachsentor. Lined with historic half-timbered houses, it is a bustling and popular address with its back streets, which was redesigned in 2002-2004 at the initiative of local business people.
A new lighting, benches and trees increase the quality of stay, so that the areas are used in the summer of the local gastronomy gladly. Especially in the evening, points of light in the floor create a pleasant atmosphere in certain places, such as the small market square.

The half-timbered gabled houses at the Sachsentor of
1625 = No. 54
1683 = No. 52
1700 = No. 50
are three of the last largely preserved town houses in Alt-Bergedorf. They give an impression of the historical development of the Sachsentor, the main street of the former "town Bergedorf".
