A castle like something out of a book. And in this case, that's actually true. The inspiration and model for rebuilding the Lichtenstein ruins in 1842 came from the castle in Wilhelm Hauff's novel "Lichtenstein" from 1826. And that's exactly what it looks like: a real fairytale castle, built dangerously close to the slope.

You really should not miss the "Swabian Neuschwanstein" when you're in this corner of the Alb.
Our castle tour was good. A few nice anecdotes, would have liked to be a bit looser, but you were not showered with historical data and pedigrees. The rooms are consistently worth seeing and where else do you see a real Samurai armor? ;)

On the grounds of the castle is the Schlossschenke Lichtenstein. In addition to visitors to the castle and the Velcro park, hikers who travel on the Albsteig are also welcome here.
Serves Swabian and home-style dishes where quality and daily freshness is respected. Many seasonal specialties of the region can be found on the menu.
Opening hours:
April - October: 09.00-18.00, hot meals until 17.30
November: 09.00-18.00 on weekends and public holidays, hot meals until 5.30 pm throughout
December and January: closed
February and March: On weekends and public holidays 09.00-18.00 clock, continuously hot kitchen until 17.30 clock

There are 2 beautiful paths up from Honau. One from the Echazquelle parking lot in the curve of the Heerstrasse and another from the town of Honau itself. It is impressive to see the castle from below.

The castle guide is worth the money, 8 € adults 3.5 € Children are ok. One learns for half an hour details about the castle and the escape route to the fog cave which you can then also visit with a nice hike over the Albtrauf.

I recommend another 50 ... 100 meters to go and enjoy the beautiful view from the rock. The castle is beautiful, but crowded on weekends. I really enjoyed a candlelight dinner here in autumn.
