The Köpenick train station is a heavily frequented S-Bahn station at peak times. In commuter traffic, the S-Bahn trains that run here in the direction of Berlin are so full that many passengers have to stand. A regional train station would be urgently needed and useful here, also to improve the connection to the surrounding area. However, the railway has been pushing construction ahead for years. As far as I know, construction is scheduled to begin in 2021.

The reconstruction of Köpenick station and the extension to include a regional platform began in March 2023. According to construction signs, it will take until 2028. The traffic restrictions can be found on the railway's website and can be entered in the calendar.
