'Castle Island' is one of five peninsulas in Boston Harbor and the oldest fortified site in what was then British North America.
On a map from 1880, 'Castle Island' is still about 800 m off the coast. In 1892, a wooden footbridge was built to the island. The former island has been connected to the mainland via newly created land since 1928.
