After the Rhine floods of the 1980s, extensive dike rehabilitation was carried out here, which also included sheet piling in the so-called winter dike. Since then, sheet piling in the dike has ensured that the dike does not become unstable during floods and thus prevent breaches.

The dike also offers two beautiful cycling routes.
