Explosives and detonators (in separately secured rooms) were stored in such bunkers.
These explosives should be used in the event of a defense to destroy nearby infrastructure, e.g. Motorways, railway lines & bridges are used to make it difficult for the Eastern Bloc to advance.

A relic of the cold war is here: Five former ammunition bunkers of the German army dawn here in front of him, because the border to the former GDR was not far and here was a staging area. Unfortunately, you can not visit the bunkers, they are now privately owned.
