A monument at the end of the Weser dyke: The Moorlose Church is an old parish church in Burglesum.
The church was built in the Middle Ages and is located in the Werderland nature reserve.
There are two widely spread stories about the origin of the name. One of them is that the church got its name from a moat called "Moorlöse" that was very close to the building. Another story says that the name of the church is derived from the meaning "motherless". When the Weser changed its course in the Middle Ages, it separated the then village of Büren. Mittelsbüren and Niederbüren were now on the right side of the Weser, Hasenbüren and Lewenbüren on the left side. And so the Moorlose Church and its so-called "mother church" in Altenesch were separated from each other. That is why the church became "motherless".
Regardless of which story you believe, a trip to the Moorlose Church is definitely worth it. Whether by bike or skates along the Weser dyke, by boat "Hal Över" across the Mittelsbüren pier or by car, at the end you will find a beautiful church in neo-Gothic style, as well as a restaurant with a beer garden next to it in an idyllic atmosphere.

Many people still come today to visit the building, which was declared a monument in 1973. As the church had become dilapidated, it was replaced by a new building by the master builder Theodor Eggers between 1845 and 1846.
