In a small and idyllic park you reach the grave and the memorial stone of Heinrich von Kleist and his girlfriend Henriette Vogel on a path lined with yew trees. On November 21, 1811, the two of them committed suicide here on the banks of the small Wannsee.

Kleist's grave at the Kleiner Wannsee

The grave of Heinrich von Kleist and Henriette Vogel is located between Bismarckstraße and Kleiner Wannsee in the south-west of Berlin. Kleist and his girlfriend ended their lives here in November 1811.
The grave of Heinrich von Kleist and Henriette Vogel lies under tall trees on a natural site between Bismarckstrasse and Kleiner Wannsee in the south-west of Berlin. The poet of Goethe's time and his seriously ill girlfriend committed suicide there on November 21, 1811.
Since it was forbidden at that time to bury suicides in a cemetery, their bodies were buried on the spot. It is disputed whether the joint suicide actually took place where visitors find the tombstone today. Possibly the suicide took place some distance away and the grave or just the gravestone was subsequently moved.
