    "On the partly wooded summit of the Westerberg (187.61 meters above sea level) stands the Longinusturm, a 32 m high observation tower that was built by the "Baumberge Association" between 1897 and 1901 from the Baumberg lime sandstone.
    In 1952, Reinhold Holtstiege presented television to the public for the first time in West Germany at the "Longinusturm". The very first images seen here in West Germany came from the Dutch experimental television station Lopik near Rotterdam and were received here on the Longinus Tower in the Baumberge.
    At that time there was no electricity connection at the Longinus Tower. The electricity required to operate the first Philips television (625 Z.), which was still equipped with 24 tubes, had to be supplied with a small makeshift power supply system, which consisted of a large 12 volt car battery and a smaller 12/220 volt machine converter. be generated.
    Hardly anyone in West Germany could imagine the term “television” in the winter of 1951/52.
    In 1997, a bronze plaque was attached to the Longinus Tower by the Münster Radio and Television Technicians' Guild and the "Baumberge Association" on the "historic occasion of the pioneering achievement of the first television reception in West Germany".
    At the beginning of the 1950s, the tower was expanded for telecommunications with an architecturally unsuitable structure, with an integrated viewing platform and antenna systems; in 1992 a wind measuring system was added. Between 1993 and 1994, two wind turbines for alternative energy generation and another transmission system were built near the tower.
    From autumn 2008 to September 15, 2009, the tower was renovated with great technical and financial effort and, after completion, it now shines almost as beautifully and new as it did on the day of completion over 100 years ago."
