The Gampertsteig is a footpath on Georgsberg in Passau.
Here it goes from the Danube in a few steep switchbacks but on a good path - later via the Ludwigssteig - up to Veste Oberhaus.

History
In 1901, forester Albert Gampert had a paved path built on Georgsberg. The path was only given the name Gampertsteig after Gampert became an honorary citizen of the city of Passau in 1911 and in 1918 the city had a plaque put up in his memory in gratitude. Gampert had died the year before.

Maintaining the Gampertsteig has always involved a lot of effort. The entire path is regularly maintained and constantly checked by the municipal building yard, and the railing has also been improved over the years. After a mudslide in 2016 as a result of particularly heavy rainfall, the slope was additionally secured and old rockfall protection fences replaced. In parallel with the State Building Authority, the city also took on further rock protection work.

Course
The Gampertsteig leads from Angerstraße almost a kilometer up to Veste Oberhaus. Rock walls and trees line the path, and through the thicket there are always beautiful views of the city. Together with the lower longitudinal path, the Niederleuthnersteig and the Ludwigsteig, it forms the network of paths on Georgsberg.
