Flagler College, founded in 1968, is the former Hotel "Ponce de Leon" owned by flagler, oil and railroad magnate, who had it built in just 18 months in the late 1880s. This was only possible because it was built of concrete and was the first building of this type in the USA. In those days, of course, only the rich and famous stayed at this hotel during the winter season - you had to book for the entire season and shell out $4,000 for it, which is about $100,000 in today's purchasing power.

Flagler College is very impressive. Today a university built in Spanish Renaissance style; it was a luxury hotel in the first life. The courtyard with fountain is welcoming and the lobby with its wood carvings is accessible to everyone. The interior is really worth seeing.
Really worth a visit. Tours are also offered.
