A unique gem in Mecklenburg is the Dobbertin Monastery with its double-towered church, which was built based on a Schinkel model.
The former monastery, founded in 1220 by the Benedictines, housed nuns from 1237 onwards. In 1572 it was converted into a noble women's convent. In 1857 the completion of the church reconstruction by G. A. Demmler based on plans by Schinkel was celebrated.
Since 1960, mentally handicapped and mentally ill people have been cared for in the historic buildings. In 1991 the Diakoniewerk took over the sponsorship.

A wonderfully renovated gem of history. The descriptions and explanations in the cloister are very interesting. In the monastery brewery there is delicious food. It's worth a visit.
