Many former mills, Obermühle, Lower Mill, Splash Mill, Neumühle and Talmühle worked here with the water power of the river Muss. Today the signs show that there were mills to see, almost nothing is left of it.

The path along the naturally running Mußbach crosses it several times with wooden bridges.
Sometimes it is very damp and muddy by the stream!
At the edge of the path there are signs to former mills (Obermühle, Untere Mühle, Platsche Mühle, Neumühle) of which there is not much to see!
Several water protection areas have been designated!

In the 17th and 18th centuries there were several mills in the Mußbach valley, which are still commemorated by plaques along the way. The donkey path was created as access to the mills in the Mußbach valley, because the Deidesheimers of the Prince-Bishopric of Speyer could only reach their mills with carts if they took the route through the Gimmeldinger valley via Electorate of the Palatinate territory. The border was at the Looganlage. When an Electorate of the Palatinate customs barrier was erected in Gimmeldingen in 1715, the Deidesheimers kept donkeys in their mills to transport grain, flour and other things through their own forest over the 450 m high Knoppenweth. The mills in the Mußbach valley were therefore also called donkey mills.
