The detached house was built in 1913 by order of a retired soldier from Brussels in a sparsely built-up agricultural area next to the Mechelen-Ghent railway line, close to the Wichelse railway stop and the road to Lede. It is a striking construction due to its eccentric appearance and colourful use of materials, typical of the eclectic architectural style, a combination of different historical styles and movements, and was designed by Théophile Présiaux.
